that common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression are typically addressed through talk therapy; the NIMH also points out that psychotherapy can help address recurring negative thoughts, fears, interpersonal difficulties, and challenges in coping at home, school, or work.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">If any of the following apply to you, it\u2019s usually worth scheduling an initial assessment:<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Chronic stress and emotional ups and downs; relationships that always seem to hit a roadblock; being unable to move past loss, trauma, or major life changes; knowing you should pull yourself together but just can\u2019t seem to do it; On the surface, everything seems to be functioning normally, but inside, you\u2019re actually exhausted. Psychotherapy doesn\u2019t necessarily mean you\u2019re \u201csick\u201d; often, it simply means you need a more professional space for reflection and support. The APA also points out that therapy can help you understand how it works, how to choose the right professional, and how to determine what kind of help you need.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">However, there are a few situations where it\u2019s not a matter of \u201cthinking it over,\u201d but rather<span class=\"s1\"><b>Seek help as soon as possible<\/b><\/span>\uff1a<\/p><p class=\"p1\">If you have thoughts of harming yourself or others, a noticeable loss of touch with reality, panic that prevents you from living a normal life, an inability to eat or sleep at all, or if your safety is already at risk, this is considered an urgent situation, and you need to seek emergency help immediately. The NHS clearly states that if you or someone else is in danger, you should contact emergency services immediately; it also emphasizes that your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and that seeking help is not a waste of anyone\u2019s time.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">If you're still unsure, a good first step is not to diagnose yourself right away, but to ask yourself these two questions:<\/p><p class=\"p3\"><b>\"Have I really been doing well lately?\"<\/b><b><\/b><\/p><p class=\"p3\"><b>\"Has this already affected my life?\"<\/b><b><\/b><\/p><p class=\"p1\">If your answer leans toward \u201cyes,\u201d you might want to consider scheduling a counseling session or a therapeutic assessment.
